Assam mountaineer Deepshikha Hazarika’s mortal remains to reach home today

The mortal remains of deceased Assam mountaineer Deepshikha Hazarika, who died in an avalanche in Uttarakhand‘s Uttarkashi district, will be brought to her home today.

Deepshikha’s body was recovered by rescue workers on Saturday morning, after four days of relentless search operations. 

A pall of gloom descended over the family of Deepshikha ever since the confirmation of her death reached them. 

Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his sadness over Deepshikha’s untimely demise. 

Conveying condolences for the bereaved families, CM Sarma prayed to God for the eternal peace of Deepshikha’s departed soul.

Hailing from Guwahati, Deepshikha Hazarika was among the 41 trainees of the Uttarkashi-based Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM ) who were hit by an avalanche while trekking on the Draupadi Ka Danda-II peak in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on October 4.

The death toll from the Uttarkashi avalanche has now risen to 26.

Meanwhile, despite adverse weather conditions, the search for three more missing climbers continues.

According to NIM, 41 people, including 34 trainees and 7 mountaineering instructors, were hit by the avalanche.

The NIM said that the Advanced Mountaineering Course commenced on September 14 at Uttarkashi and the course moved to the mountain on September 23. 

They arrived at the Base Camp on September 5.

The avalanche occurred at a height of 17,000 feet at around 8. 45 am while the team was returning after summiting Draupadi Ka Danda II peak.
