Rahul Chetri lying, he was one who started the physical assault on me, claims DU ragging victim Anand Sharma

GUWAHATI, Dec 5: Dibrugarh University ragging victim Anand Sharma has dismissed Rahul Chetri’s claims of not being involved in the shocking ragging incident saying Chetri, a former president of the Dibrugarh University PG Students’ Union (DUPGSU), was the one who was started physically assaulting him as the other meted out inhuman torture on him in the name of ragging.

Rahul Chetri had in the wee hours today surrendered himself before police at the Lekhapani police station in Tinsukia district and distanced himself from the shocking incident saying he was innocent and that he was not involved in torturing Anand Sharma, an M. Com first semester student and a boarder of PNGB Hostel.

Anand, unable to bear the torture meted out on him by his hostel seniors, had jumped from the second floor of his hostel building on the intervening night of Nov 21 and 22. He has since been undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Dibrugarh following multiple fractures in his spinal cord.

“I am not involved in the ragging incident,” Rahul said while he was taken to court after his surrender and subsequent arrest, and added: “I had been on the run since I feared for my life and that I could be attacked after my name surfaced in connection with the incident.”

However Rahul’s claims have found few takers and have also been dismissed by Anand himself who said that it was Rahul who had been at the forefront during the torture in the name of ragging at the hostel.

“He was the one who started physically assaulting me. How can he distance himself from it now?” Anand said from his ICU bed today.

“He’s facing the consequences of his deeds. I want justice,” he added.

“How can he say that he was not involved? If he was really not involved, why was he on the run?” Anand’s sister Pooja told News Live.

Incidentally, five students of Dibrugarh University have already been arrested in connection with the ragging horror at the varsity.

On the other hand, a total of 22 students were temporarily suspended from the university for their alleged involvement in the ragging case.
