Assam: Lat Mandal arrested on Bribery Charges in Lakhimpur

Carrying on its relentless effort to curb corruption in the state, Assam Police on Wednesday arrested a Lat Mandal on bribery charges from Lakhimpur district.
The Lat Mandal has been identified as Hemendra Sarmah posted at Tinsukia under North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle.
As per sources, Sarmah demanded an amount of Rs 1 lakh for the processing of namjari of an individual who applied for land mutation.
It is learned that at first Bora took 50 percent of the demanded money through UPI and later when he was on his way to collect another 50 percent, the police arrested him under bribery charges.
At present, the arrested Lat Mandal has been kept under Lakhimpur Police custody.
Further investigation on the matter is underway.
