Assam Panchayat results are being declared with counting of votes getting underway at 8 am
As the Assam Panchayat results are being declared with counting of votes beginning at 8 am in the morning today (May 11), candidates of the BJP and its allies have taken early leads while candidates of the Congress, the main Opposition party in the State, is trailing in most of the constituencies.
While the BJP and its allies are leading in 93 Zila Parishad seats out of the total 397 seats, the Congress is leading in just 4 seats while the AIUDF is leading in six seats.
On the other hand, Out of the total 2192 Anchalik Parishad seats, BJP and its allies are leading/won in 269 seats while the Congress is leading in two seats.
The Congress has also suffered massive setbacks in Upper Assam districts where the party had hoped to put up a good show. However, in almost every district in Upper Assam, the party has put up a disappointing show with BJP and AGP candidates taking early leads in Zila Parishad and Anchalik Parishad seats.
The Panchayat polls are being seen as the semi-finals ahead of next year’s assembly elections in the State.
