Assam: Child molester who tried to flee from custody shot at by police in Biswanath

Guwahati: Another criminal in Assam has been shot at by police after he allegedly tried to flee from police custody. Mohim Sharma (56), who was arrested on allegations of sexual assault in Biswanath district, was shot at by cops after he tried to escape from police custody late Sunday night.

Sharma was arrested by police on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 7-year-old minor girl in Biswanath district.

Incidentally, after the incident came to light, a group of angry villagers thrashed the man, painted his face and paraded him through the village garlanding him with slippers and shoes.

The victim’s mother said that when her daughter was playing in front of their house, the accused lured her and took her inside his house and allegedly molested her.

“The man had molested the minor girl and we will take action as per the law,” a police officer told News Live.

The accused was apprehended and a case has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
