Air Warriors to the Rescue: IAF drops relief materials in Silchar

Guwahati: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is air-dropping relief materials to the flood-affected people in Assam’s Silchar. As you can see on your screens, IAF choppers delivered relief items to the roofs of people’s homes as they continue to reel under floods.

It was earlier reported that the IAF would airlift 1 lakh 8 thousand liters of petrol and diesel to Silchar in Barak valley which has been badly hit by the deluge.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is slated to visit flood-hit Barak Valley on Thursday and will be inspecting the flood situation in Silchar and other areas, and also will visit relief camps.

CM Sarma will hold a meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj.

It may be mentioned here that the flood situation in Silchar continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate. The surge in the water levels of Barak river has inundated the Silchar-Karimganj road, while several areas of Silchar town have been waterlogged.

Moreover, a team of 105 NDRF personnel has been carrying out relief operations.

Meanwhile, the cumulative death toll in Assam floods has risen to 100 with 32 districts in the state battling nature’s fury.

More than 54 lakh people in the state are reeling under floodwaters. While there has been a slight improvement in a few places, the situation in districts including Darrang, Nagaon, Morigaon, and Barak Valley has taken a turn for the worse.

Fresh landslides have been reported from Cachar, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, and Karimganj.

Notably, more than 2 lakh people are taking shelter in the 845 relief camps set up by the government.

It may also be mentioned here that the state government is making all-out efforts to bring a lasting solution to the annual menace with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself visiting the flood-affected areas to review the situation from ground zero.
