Assam Chief Minister inaugurates “Amrit Udyan” Park in Guwahati

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday officially inaugurated “Amrit Udyan”, a park with various amenities built at a cost of Rs.14.81 crores on 14 bighas of land in Guwsahati’s Hengrabari area.

The project has been completed at a record time period of just a year, with construction activities starting in August last year, said the official.

The land for the project was procured by the government of Assam from the Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board, for which a payment of Rs. 25 crores had to be made, officially added.

Speaking to the media CM Sarma said that the first one was built and inaugurated at Maligaon, while the Amrit Udyan was built in line with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

CM Sarma went on to mention that a botanical garden will be inaugurated in the Fancy Bazar area of Guwahati by December-January.

He said, “A botanical garden is going to come up at Fancy Bazar by December this year or January next. Another park along with a pond will be built on 10 bighas land nearby the Chandmari Bus Stand.”

The Chief Minister stated that when he was made the Minister for Guwahati Development Department in 2003, beautification and transforming the city into a truly smart one was one of his top priorities.

With Amrit Udyan and the inauguration of Atal Udyan at Maligaon last year, the city can now boast of two parks of high standards, and the third one, a botanical garden at the old Central Jail complex at Fancy Bazar, should be ready for the public by coming December, the Chief Minister said.

CM Sarma exuded confidence this would be able to instill a sense of patriotism in the minds and hearts of the youths, while at the same time according to due recognition to these extraordinary personalities.

Meanwhile, the CM lauded Minister Ashok Singhal and his team for working day and night to ensure the park project was completed in record time.
