APDCL hikes electricity tariff, 79 paise/unit to be levied under Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment for next 3 months

There’s some bad news for people of Assam with the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) deciding to hike electricity tariff to Rs 0.79 per unit from the existing 30 paise per unit for three months beginning December.

The State Power department will the additional charge on all categories of consumers for the next three months till February, a move that is being seen as another burden on the common people who are already bearing the brunt of price rise of essentials.

The APDCL notice read: “It is for information of all Electricity consumers that in terms of the AERC (Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment) Regulations, 2010, Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA) at 79 paisa per unit (kWh) will be levied to all category of consumers for next three months w.e.f. December’22 (energy consumed during November’22) to February’23 (energy consumed during January’23).”

“Any adjustment regarding short/excess recovery due to seasonal variation of consumption within the stipulated period will be adjusted in subsequent periods or as may be directed by AERC. The adjustment will remain in force unless replaced by other order to that effect,” the notice further read.

The hike, the APDCL notice states, is to cover the cost of fuel and energy purchases.

This comes after APDCL had in September accepted that there were discrepancies in monthly electricity dues of customers, saying that minor anomalies were there for a while, but this time it became apparent.

Since September, there has been a hike of 30 paise per unit, which means without the discretion of customers, there has been a slight hike in electricity tariff.
