Zubeen Garg turns 50, fans shower him with birthday wishes

 Singing superstar and filmmaker Zubeen Garg turned 50 today (Nov 18) with his family members, near and dear ones and his fans wishing him on his birthday.

The heartthrob of millions was seen cutting the cake along with his near and dear ones and fans at midnight with visuals showing him celebrating his birthday.

Fans from around the state came over and gathered in Jorhat at 12 midnight to celebrate the heartthrob’s birthday with him. They sang his songs and wished him on the occasion. They even waited outside his house to catch a glimpse of their heartthrob.

His fan clubs around the state will be doing social works in his name as they do every year, mentioned his wife, Garima Saikia Garg while addressing the media.

Meanwhile, his fans showered him with birthday wishes with many taking to various popular social networking sites to wish their loved “Zubeen Da” a very happy birthday.

Zubeen Garg, a singer from Assam, is an icon in the state. His numerous songs are much loved and heard by the youth and elderly alike.

Garg was born in a Brahmin family in Tura, Meghalaya to Mohini Mohon Borthakur and Late Ily Borthakur. He was named after the music composer Zubin Mehta. and used his gotra ‘Garg’ as his surname. His father Mohini Borthakur was a Magistrate and a lyricist and a poet under the name Kapil Thakur and his mother Late Ily Borthakur was a singer.

Garg’s younger sister Jonkey Borthakur was an actress and singer who died in a car accident in February 2002 in Sonitpur district while they were going to perform a stage show along with her co-artists. He released the album Xixhu in 2002, in memory of Jonkey Borthakur. His other sister is Dr. Palme Borthakur.

Garg pursued a degree in Bachelor of Science at B. Borooah College but dropped out to concentrate on his singing career.

Garg married Garima Saikia, a fashion designer from Golaghat, Assam on 4 February 2002.
