APSC Cash-for-Job Scam: Suspended APS officer Rumi Timungpi to appear before SIT

Suspended APS officer Rumi Timungpi is slated to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police at the CID office in Guwahati today in connection with the cash-for-job scam of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

As per inputs, Rumi Timungpi allegedly acquired the post of APSC registered officer through fraudulent means. The officer reportedly did not even pass the 2013 APSC main examinations.

Rumi Timungpi belonged to the ST (Hills) caste and the cut-off mark was 631 marks, however, the candidate managed to get only 558 marks.

Now allegations have come to the fore that with due assistance of then APSC chairman Rakesh Pal, Timungpi managed to get 777 marks in the mains exams.

The APSC scam, which came to light in 2013, involved the illegal enhancement of marks on the final tabulation sheet used to declare the results of the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE).

So far, the Assam government has suspended 21 officers for their alleged involvement in the scam.

11 Assam Police officers, 4 civil servants and 6 from other services were suspended with immediate effect on December 1 for their involvement in the scam.

The ongoing investigation into criminal offenses related to the APSC cash for job scam has revealed that these officers benefited from irregularities by illegally increasing their marks, which allowed them to be recommended for appointment.

Based on the report of former Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma, all 21 have been suspended from their jobs.

The suspended officers are now being interrogated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police investigating the matter.
