Perth Test: India in driver’s seat after Jaiswal ton

GUWAHATI, Nov 24: Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed his first Test century in Australia and his fourth ton in the longer format of the game to put India in a commanding position in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Optus Stadium, Perth.

Jaiswal brought up his century with a massive six off Josh Hazlewood’s delivery, taking 205 balls to reach three figures.

Earlier in the morning, KL Rahul missed out on his century as Mitchell Starc provided Australia the first breakthrough to dismisses the Indian opener for 77.

Devdutt Padikkal, who joined Jaiswal after the fall of Rahul’s wicket, put up 74 for the second wicket before he was dismissed by Hazlewood for 25 on the first ball after lunch.

India were 288 for 2 in 89 overs with Jaiswal batting on 150 and Virat Kohli on 4 as the visitors extended their lead to 334 at the time of filing this report.

Earlier on Day 1 of the Test, India were bundled out for 150 runs while the Indian pacers, led by stand-in captain, Jasprit Bumrah, skittled out the hosts for just 104 runs, their lowest Test score against India on Australian soil.
