Man buried alive in devastating landslide at Rupnagar, Guwahati: One person was buried alive after a huge rock and a mound of earth came crashing down in Rupnagar locality of Guwahati.

The landslide took place around 11:30 pm on Friday night as the rock and the mound of earth fell on two houses, burying the man who had come out to inquire as to what had happened.

Although rescue operations are underway, SDRF personnel have not been able to locate and rescue the missing person — identified as Maneswar Rajbongshi — till the filing of this report.

Rajbonshi’s wife, daughter and mother had a close shave and could manage to leave the landslide-hit area in the nick of time.

“He had gone out of his house to inquire what had happened and was buried by the earth and rock. His name is Maneswar Rajbongshi and is around 60 years old,” a neighbour told News Live.

Meanwhile, even as operations to rescue him continue, authorities have declared the area landslide prone and have asked 12 more families to shift from their respective residences and move to safer places.
