Violence broke out at the eviction drive launched by police and district administration officials at Chapar in Dhubri district of Assam on Tuesday (July 8) with a section of illegal settlers going on a rampage and attacking excavator drivers along with cops and other officials with bricks, stones, sticks and whatever they could lay their hands on.
Shocking visuals showed illegal settlers taking the law into their hands and attacking excavator operators and other officials, including policemen, deployed to carry out the eviction drive with bricks and stones.
The Government of Assam is carrying out one of the biggest eviction drives ever launched by the BJP government, aiming to clear over 3,500 bighas of land under Chapar revenue circle in Dhubri district from illegal encroachers.
