Earthquake in Delhi: The epicenter of the 4.4 magnitude earthquake was located near Jhajjar in Haryana
Earthquake in Delhi: A magnitude 4.4 earthquake jolted Delhi-NCR today (July 10) morning with its epicenter located near Jhajjar in Haryana, approximately 51 km west of Delhi.
The tremors were felt across the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and extended to parts of western Uttar Pradesh such as Meerut and Shamli, about 200 km from the epicenter.
The tremors were felt at 9:04 am at a shallow depth of 10 km and led to panic among people with many people evacuating buildings as a precaution.
Despite the tremors — which many people said were the longest they have ever experienced in their lives — there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), meanwhile, issued advisories after the quake struck earlier this morning and asked people to remain calm and avoid using elevators, and evacuate buildings using stairs.
They also advised motorists to stop in open areas away from structures.
Delhi, incidentally, is located in Seismic Zone 4 which has a higher risk of earthquakes and reports said that the national capital has experienced at least five earthquakes above 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale since 1720.
