Vadodara Bridge Collapse: In a terrifying incident early Wednesday morning, a part of the Gambhira Bridge on the Padra–Mujpur road in Vadodara collapsed suddenly, sending shockwaves across Gujarat. The bridge, which connects Central Gujarat to Saurashtra, gave way around 7:30 AM, causing multiple vehicles to plunge straight into the Mahisagar River.
According to police officials, at least four vehicles fell into the river after a portion of the bridge collapsed. Among the vehicles affected were a truck, a van, and at least two more vehicles that happened to be on the bridge when the tragedy struck. Within moments, chaos unfolded at the site, with people screaming for help and locals rushing to the scene to assist however they could.
Emergency services were alerted immediately. Teams from the police, fire brigade, and disaster response forces reached the area quickly and began rescue work. According to officials, 10 people were injured in the incident, with 3 to 4 of them in critical condition.
A fire brigade official, who was part of the rescue team, said, “It was a sudden collapse. The people didn’t even get time to react. We managed to pull out ten individuals from the water and wreckage. Rescue operations are still on as we continue to check for any others who might be trapped.”
The bridge is around 25 kilometres from Vadodara city and is considered a major route for vehicles heading toward Saurashtra. It’s used by both private travellers and heavy transport vehicles, which makes this collapse even more worrying for daily commuters.
Locals in the area say that while the bridge was frequently used, there had been no visible signs or official warnings about its structural issues. Some people who rushed to the site right after the collapse said they were shocked by how easily the bridge crumbled.
The incident has left many people questioning the condition of other old bridges and infrastructure in the region. “If such an important bridge can fall without any warning, how safe are the rest?” asked one of the villagers who lives nearby.
Authorities have not yet shared the exact reason behind the collapse, but investigations are underway. Engineers and officials are expected to examine the remaining structure to ensure no further danger exists. Meanwhile, alternate routes are being arranged for commuters.
For now, the priority remains helping the injured and checking for anyone who might still be missing. Ambulances were seen moving victims to nearby hospitals, and medical teams are working hard to treat those in critical condition.
This bridge collapse has once again raised serious concerns about infrastructure safety in India, especially in high-traffic rural and semi-urban areas. Many people online are calling for urgent inspections and audits of old bridges and roads across the country.
