Group of Bangladeshi miscreants try to break river embankment in Assam

Guwahati: In a sensational incident, a group of miscreants from the Bangladesh side tried to break the embankment on the Kusiara river on the Indian side in Assam’s Karimganj district.

The group of 15 to 20 miscreants reportedly came in two boats and tried to break the embankment, which if had they succeeded, could have caused heavy floods in the area, especially Karimganj town.

The miscreants reportedly tried to enter the Steamerghat areas in Karimganj town from the Zakiganj area of Bangladesh and damage the embankment so that heavy floodwaters rush into the Indian side.

Local soon got to know about it and rushed out carrying batons and sticks to drive out the Bangladeshi miscreants.

With the Kusiara river flowing well above the danger mark, the miscreants from the Bangladesh side were trying to push the excess water into the Indian side which may have resulted in the entire Karimganj town getting heavily flooded.

As per witnesses, a large number of people from the Bangladesh side tried to break into India and damage the embankment by the Kusiara river which is critical to maintaining the flood scenario in the area.

Police too soon arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control before things could get out of hand.

As per sources, no arrests have been made in the matter as the miscreants reportedly managed to flee back to Bangladesh.

Talking on the matter, DSP Gitartha Dev Sharma said that the situation is under control and they have also intimated BSF regarding the matter.
