Assam: Oil India’s oil well repair work goes wrong, 1 dead, 4 injured

At least 1 person died while 4 others were injured in a tragic mishap during repair work of a oil well of Oil India Limited, around six kilometres away from Duliajan in Eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

Inputs suggest the incident happened late Wednesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Robin Urang, a contractual employee. He was seriously injured and was rushed to Oil Hospital in Duliajan but was declared brought dead by doctors.

Among the four injured, two are being treated at the OIL Hospital in Duliajan while the other two have been rushed to Dibrugarh for further treatment.

OIL Spokesperson Bhairob Bhuyan informed Northeast Live that the mishap occurred at NHK 162 well plinth of Western Asset mine.

Bhuyan further informed that OIL Resident Chief Executive has ordered an internal inquiry into the matter.

Worth mentioning on May 27, 2020 a sudden and uncontrolled release of gas occurred from an oil-producing well, operated by the public sector unit Oil India Limited (OIL), near Baghjan village in Assam’s Tinsukia district. The situation took a turn for the worse on June 9 when the well caught fire and led to the loss of 3 lives.
