Radhika Yadav, State-Level Tennis Player, Shot Dead by her Father in Gurgaon

In a deeply heartbreaking incident, 25-year-old state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot dead by her father while she was cooking breakfast at their Gurgaon home on July 10. According to police, her father, Deepak Yadav, used his licensed revolver to fire three bullets into her back, killing her on the spot.

Radhika had been a rising sports star and had started her own tennis academy after a shoulder injury had paused her playing career. She was known for mentoring young talent and was running the academy independently. But this became a point of tension at home. Her father reportedly felt humiliated by taunts from villagers in their native Wazirabad, who mocked him for living off his daughter’s income. He later confessed to police that these comments hurt his pride and dignity.

Police officials said Deepak Yadav had asked Radhika to shut down the academy several times, but she refused. The ongoing arguments between them escalated on the morning of the murder. When Radhika was in the kitchen, he pulled out his revolver and shot her from behind. Her mother was resting in another room, and by the time she reached the kitchen, it was already too late. Radhika’s brother filed the complaint with the police.

In his confession, Deepak said that people not only taunted him for relying on his daughter’s earnings but also questioned her character. He admitted that he couldn’t bear the “humiliation” anymore and decided to end it by shooting her. Police recovered the weapon used in the crime and are continuing with the investigation.

Radhika Yadav was a former student of Scottish High International School and had once ranked 113th as a doubles tennis player in International Tennis Federation (ITF). Despite her injury, she stayed committed to the game by coaching others. Her sudden and tragic death has left the sports community and the public in shock, once again highlighting the harsh realities of patriarchal pressure and how societal judgment can destroy families and young dreams.
